Tried to put up better photos of both finished (yet unblocked) mittens. It is nearly impossible to take pictures of mittens yourself. In the top photo the right mitten is turned over to show the stockinette underside.
I love how bright and cheery these mittens turned out!
Notes:
Because the top of the mitten is worked in reverse stockinette and the bottom in stockinette the last row requires you to graft purl stitches to knit stitches. I was too lazy to look up how to graft purl stitches to knit stitches so first mitten (left) is a bit messy at tip. On second mitten I just knit all the stitches on the last row so I could Kitchener neatly.

These knit up super quick (even though I still stubbornly cable with a needle) and seem to be a great pattern for some special handspun.

I did use the German cast on and the instructional link for that was extremely helpful. I like that cast-on and will use it again on future projects.
