04/14: I knit this to be a dress for my then eight-month-old daughter. She’s now two and a half, and sadly, it’s time to retire the item - not because it no longer fit (was still going strong as a little shirt), but because daycare provider kindly decided to wash it. In the regular laundry. Surprisingly, it did not felt as much as I would expect, but it’s certainly no longer wearable. I guess now I really do need to write up the pattern so I can knit another one for Fall.
My own design. There’s a lot going on with this tunic/dress - seamless, top-down construction, an intarsia lace bib, stranded colorwork skirt, picot bind-off … but I think it all comes together rather nicely. The garter stitch bodice and rustic yarn work really well to offset the girly details.
Knit up with larger needles, the LOFT goes a long way. Since it’s a woolen-spun yarn, it blooms nicely with a good soak and creates a super light-weight but substantial fabric. This entire garment ended up weighing less than 3 ounces!
Another project for Wips Wrestling!
An attempt at designing as I go. I’m really enjoying the intellectual exercise -- it helps that the tunic/dress is turning out really well so far. If I were going to knit this again or write a pattern, I have already identified a few places that need tweaking, but for now I’m just having fun!
