First time holding both yarns in my left hand (continental) for fair isle. For all my other color projects, I have held one yarn in either hand which produced uneven tension.

I am quite liking how this is turning out, but tension is also easier to manage with this heavier weight wool.

The pattern says gauge doesn’t matter, but my gauge was off by a stitch and a half (row-wise) and the stocking is looking alarmingly large

I should have done what I usually do and go down a size or two in needles.

Almost ready to start toe and then I realized one column of the diamond motifs in the foot chart we’re lopsided. I somehow chopped off the right hand edge and then repeated the mistake from halfway up the chart to the end (I read my knitting instead of the chart, so the mistake was repeated to the end).

I took a deep breath and laddered down to fix. I had to frog after completing one motif because I was getting my floats mixed up. I discovered I needed to look through the hole I created when I laddered down, and locate the right red and white strand for the row. Sometimes this entailed a journey as the right strand would be a few stitches back and I had to search through a sea of loose floats.

I got the hang of it and managed to knit back up by late afternoon.

I wanted to have this finished by today for the official start of December but looks like this will be a tad belated.

Ends woven in and piece is blocking.

I bought some wool felt fabric and was able to use about a yard of the fabric to create an inside lining. I have measured once pre-block, but will measure again for the final cut after the stocking had dried.

Now that the stocking is finished, the size and proportions look quite normal.

I am quite pleased with how this project has turned out and would definitely knit again.

No mistakes found in the pattern.
