Finished!
I love the ease of top-down construction. I used partial balls from previous projects, but it is possible to work continuously all the way, except for the sleeve edging.
I’ll be looking out for my next top-down garment project, in my hope of being good in this type of construction. Maybe I could design my own sometime…
Day 6 - Finished the body edging yesterday, and hopefully will finish the sleeve edging today.
Day 5 - I’m doing an sc-in-blo edging, same as in my Breezy Bolero design.
Day 4 - I have decided that this will be a shrug.
Day 3 - I worked mainly on this project for the past few days since I can’t wait to finish the upper part so I can try it on.
I’m very pleased with the result, my modifications seemed to work…though I think I could still improve on it ;)
Its tempting to finish it off as a shrug or bolero…
Day 2 - almost finished 20 rows…still don’t know if it will fit nicely.
Day 1 - I’m just starting to learn top-down construction, and I’m so glad to find this pattern! Its a lovely design and the pattern seems perfect. I just have to modify since I’m using size 8 thread and 3.5mm (Tulip 6/0) hook…hope this works!
Working on medium size of pattern, my modifications were:
- Started with foundation base ch/sc of 69 sts.
- added one pattern repeat (8 sts each) at each side and at the back. (Total 24 sts added to the original 45 sts of medium size)
- Made 31 rows before joining the body at the underarm. Increase rows: 1, 3, 9, 11, 17, 23
Anatole’s project inspired me to work on this project.
Thanks to Doris Chan for the lovely design and well-written pattern :)
Update, July 30, 2010:
I like this shrug a lot, but it turned out big for me. I decided to give it to my High School classmate when we met-up after 30 years! She was admiring my creations online from the U.S., wanting to order from me. I surprised her with this, on her vacation here.
