Sweater #3 2016
For my mom!
Got gauge on 7’s
Amazing test knit pattern for Thea. So glad I got to test this! Loads of cables and ribbing make this pattern look complicated, but it works up easily. Cables are easily memorized and Thea wrote each section of the pattern clearly so the cardigan flows off your needles. Can’t wait to make one for myself :) I chose a size that gave my mom 4” of ease and it was slightly big, if I were making again I’d go down a size. As other testers noted the rubbing does stretch quite a bit and the weight of the cardigan was part of the reason it was too big.
Ok mom came for a visit so I was able to do some mods to fix the fit…
- Placed markers for the 23 underarm stitches and then placed markers for the different you sections on each armsycle so they were even
- Started at the saddle on one side using a 4,5mm crochet hook and picked up the left leg of the knit column and the right leg of the stitch next to it and slip stitched 32 stitches down.
- Picked up each decrease stitch until the under arm stitches = 15 stitches
- Slip stitch each of the 23 underarm stitches and mirrored the slip stitched up the other side. Each arm I slip stitched 32 + 15 + 23 + 15 + 32 = 117
- Starting with the the WS facing, at the left front start of the saddle, I attached with a slip stitch to both legs of the first knit column. I then slip stitched each of the knit columns picking up both legs, but skipping the purl columns
- Continued across back panel, slip stitching each stitch except when encountering the cables sections, I slip stitched the center 2 st together to keep it nice and firm.
- If you look at the pictures it shows the sections marked and the black lines indicate the crocheted lines. This worked great, it pulled up the armsycle and brought the front up so it fit better across the shoulders. Modeled pics to come!
Progress Notes for Myself
- Will be working sleeves on magic loop TAAT
- Cast on using #6’s for tubular set up rows
- Change to #7’s and work 14 rounds ribbing vs patterned 16, taking into account the 2 set up rounds.
- Work increase rounds a total of 23 times = 52st + 26st = 98st. Increase rounds occur every 4r = 4x23 = 92r. Gauge is 7r/1” so, 92r/7r = approx 13.25” + 1” established ribbing = 14.25” past cuff.
- Mom’s sleeve length should be 17” from cuff. After 3r change last st to purl to keep 1x1 ribbing in tact
- Sleeves finished, each sleeve = 93g. Body on hold for medical testing
- 22.1.16 approx 9” of body done
- 23-25.1.16 on hold for medical testing
- 26.1.16 15” of body done, joined arms worked 2 rows
- 28.1.16 worked section 1 of the yoke (6 rows cut), moved on to section 2…cut 2 rows from this section from the work performed in section 1. Total of 8 rows cut, yoke depth just over 4” right on pattern
- 29.1.16 Section 3 of yoke work 1 WS sleeve decrease row immediately after beginning to ensure correct yoke depth
- 31.1.16 Yoke finished. After sending mom some pics, buttons orders from this Etsy shop probably should have ordered them sooner, I hope they arrive quickly! Yoke = 54 rows total = 9”
- 2.2.16 Should’ve ordered my buttons earlier! Picked up stitches for collar (5st per 6 rows or 1”) and worked 4 rows…waiting on buttons for placement and size before continuing…
- Sleeves used 98g ea = 186g
- Body used 483g
- Collar used 98g
- 7.2.16 yay buttons finally arrived! Button band complete, used Ysolda’s one row button method for the button holes. Used a total of 4 1.25” buttons. In its bath now!
