November 20, 2012 The Amigurumi Army physical Meet-Up group is having it’s annual Holiday pot luck in a couple of weeks. We’re doing a hand-made ornament swap. So I did a search on Ravelry for some patterns. Instead of finding just one pattern, I got a whole bunch of ideas! So I dove into my stash and got to making balls. I’m now planning on making a whole bunch and putting them on gifts this year.

So far I’ve only done Christmas colours: red, green, white/soft ecru, a red/green/white variegated thread (held together with a solid white worsted, it looks really cool!) and a little bit of gold thread. I even juggled three different yarns at once to make my first multi-colour spiral! It’s Poppy Red, Country Green and Soft Ecru. I really like the way it came out, so I’ll probably do several more. I do plan to branch out to blues and silver thread, maybe throw in some purples and yellow… We’ll see!

I showed them to my Mom and she seems to like them, too. I have an inkling that she’s going to want to purchase some to hand out around the office.

November 23, 2012 I have sixteen of these things, now. KristyRecycles’s Ornament project notes include a crocheted version of Lion Brand’s Holiday Ornament, and it’s great! The crocheted ornaments are relatively quick, fun to do, and I absolutely love the way they come out! I’ve done seven with KristyRecycles’s pattern so far.

December 26, 2012 Attached these guys to gifts this year to great effect. Even sold a few to both my parents.

Wonderful as KristyRecycles’s Ornament is, I shrunk it down a little bit so that I could get smaller balls that used up less yarn. It took some trial and error to get a colour scheme I liked. The pattern/colour scheme I used for the last two balls pictured (made for my sister and my auntie, respectively) can be found on my Small Christmas Balls project page.

P.S. Also shrunk down the Scrolls Tapestry Crochet pattern from Donna Kooler’s Encyclopedia of Crochet for the Soft Ecru and Sage Green ornament with the scroll motif on it.
