Moose ball pattern.
December 15, 2024 My cousin has a thing for moose. Growing up, her favourite stuffed animal was a moose and she’s liked them since she was little. So when I saw the Moose ball pattern in the Arne & Carlos Christmas Balls 2020 set, I knew I’d have to make it for her! She also loves purple, which also happens to be my favourite colour, so the colours were easy to pick, too. She got married last year, and I figured it was high time I get started on this.
The Moose chart spans two sides of the four-sided balls, so I figured I’d put their initials, “K” and “A,” on the other two sides and the year of their marriage. It took some time to find a chart with initials in a style that I liked and then I had to modify it to fit on the side of the ball. I added 20 to the top and 23 to the bottom for the year of their marriage. (Note the start date. I think I was a bit ambitious thinking I’d get this out in time for their first Christmas. Ah, well.)
In retrospect, I think those sides with the year and the inituals are a little cluttered. If I had thought about it, I should have made two Christmas balls for them: one with just the moose on two sides and a second one with their initials on two sides and 2023 in larger font across the remaining two sides. I’m sure has heck wasn’t going to try to re-start it, though. It got put on a time-out as it was: by the time I got to the decreasing rounds, my tension had changed so much, that the stitches were significantly larger than the nice, small, cute ones at the beginning. It frustrated me so much that I had to set it aside. Eventually, I did go back and re-do the decreasing rounds and while the stitches in the increasing rounds are still smaller, the difference is less noticeable.
I plan to send this out this week, so even though it’s a year late, hopefully it’ll get to them by this Christmas.
