NOTE: the darker colors I used ran in the wash and stained the white yarn around them. I recommend testing the colorfastness of the yarns ahead of time if you choose to use the Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece.
Simple granny square baby blanket - this originally started out as a bag of small granny squares (about 2” wide). I realized I wasn’t likely to get around to making another 50 or so and then seaming all of them together and weaving in all the ends neatly, so I picked up more of the white yarn and used photos I saw on Pinterest as a guide. The photos show a commercially available crocheted blanket (the website - Oddbirds - selling them lists it as a “Pläd Mormor” and I think the website is in Swedish).
First round is done in a color, then five rounds are done in white. I picked out a mix of colors that give a variety of saturation and value to keep it visually interesting, and plan to do a single crochet border in the same Gold Dust yellow used in the center of two of the squares. Will be doing 9 squares total to make a rectangular baby blanket.

Decided to add 3 more squares to make the blanket a little larger, and did the border in white instead of gold. This turned out to be a lesson in dye lots, as there are visible differences in some of the white blocks; the baby won’t care, so I’m going to live with it. Time and wear and washing will help even it out too.
