Notes

1/3 Took me longer than I thought to knit the first little mitten. So I know it will be a marathon project! My color work needs work. Hope I improve by mitten 24. First time trying Latvian braid.
1/31 Not happy with #2. Latvian braid isn’t right and there is too much show through on the carrying of yarn. At some point I may re-knit this. But not now. Need to make at least 3 in February to keep “on schedule”.
Update: After finishing #24 it was clear I had enough yarn to re-knit #2. I consciously knit at a tighter gauge to try to lessen the peek through of the carried yarn. The mitten came out smaller, but I think the peek through is much better. I guess I was trying not to be too tight with the stranded knitting in the beginning stages of this project, but I think I improved a little over time. You can see the comparison in the last 2 photos. Old #2 is the last photo.
2/26 On schedule so far! Completed 3 in February and the month isn’t quite over.
2/28 Finished #6 in February too! It’s not my best work, but it will be OK.
3/26 #7 and 8 completed in March.
5/28 I have fallen behind while working on other projects. Just completed #9
6/13 Half way done now! But I’m starting another tiny mitten KAL today, so it will stall these mittens a little.
7/25 Two thirds done!
8/1 Just finished #17. Love this little tree! Used French knots instead of duplicate stitch for the ornaments. It was a little challenging in the small space, but I like the texture.
8/6 Finished #18…three fourths done!
8/22 #20 is done! I feel like the end is in sight!
9/15 Project completed! Happy with it overall. My stranded work is not perfect like others I have seen, but it is pretty decent IMHO. I find it interesting that I used the exact same amount of the 3 main colors.
9/24. Decided this year to exhibit some of my knitting at the Durham Fair which is one of the largest agricultural fairs in New England. This mitten garland won first place in the miscellaneous category and a special award which is above and beyond first place. Then they select one from all the special awards to be “Best in Show” in that category. My project was selected as best in show for hand knitting! Such a great design!
