Notes

There is a prominent note on the pattern page of one small pattern error. Of course, I didn’t pay attention to it and kept trying to figure out my error. So mark your pattern right away if you are knitting this. I think the same correction belongs at 98 stitches as well even though it isn’t noted on pattern page.

Purchased the Mystic colorway of Destination Yarns at Stitches United in 2018. Since I’m planning to go again on March 26, I’m trying to knit this yarn before I buy more!*

I find variegated yarns difficult to love when they are knit, and so far my best successes have them in narrow stripes, so I think this pattern will work. Also, it’s called River, and we have the Mystic River here in CT, so it seems like destiny for this pattern + this color.

I love Tosh Farmhouse White, but have never used it so prominently before. Only issue is that the White parts of the Mystic will blend together with it, but I think I’m still going to like the flow of this River.

Began by breaking yarns and weaving in ends, but then I decided it would be OK to carry them. Not consistent, but I don’t need it to be perfect.

Browsing through the projects for this pattern I see many added more rows, or modified the stripe patterns. This pattern has many possibilities for modifications.

I thought mine might be a little small so I decided to add a little bit to the size. After the 122 st row and before bind off I added:

CC 6 rows with an eyelet 125 st
MC 8 rows 129 st
CC 8 rows with an eyelet 133 st
MC 2 rows 134 st
CC 2 rows 135 st
MC 3 rows 136 st

That used up every bit of the MC and left me on the WS. But I had been carrying the yarn for the last half of the knitting so my CC was on the RS. I just bound off from there.

This is an easy, relaxing knit and creates a nice graphic striped design. I don’t often knit things more than once, but I might make this one again.

  • I wanted to finish this before going to Stitches, and I finished with time to spare. But Stitches has been cancelled this year due to coronavirus concerns.
