Testing a shawl.
Very easy pattern to memorize for very contemplative knitting. There is some counting involved, but it’s very intuitive and easy to read your knitting on most rows.
The only issue is the large number of stitches as you continue increasing.
There are 329 stitches before beginning the edge. I’ve never knit a ruffled edge before and knew that it would require lots of stitches, but maybe I wasn’t prepared for 957 by the end!
I had to switch to a 60” cable and still found managing that number of stitches challenging.
I was able to complete the knitting in 2 weeks. I’m not a fast knitter, but I spent lots of time knitting. The bind off took me about 3 hours 10 minutes to complete, but I didn’t do it all at once. You just need to patient with the very long rows. I usually don’t like putting knitting down in the middle of a row, but on this one I sometimes had to.
The blocking is challenging. Not sure about these ruffles. My gauge must be off I’m only getting 56” x 18”. Instead of 71” x 18”. I didn’t think I had time for a gauge swatch to meet the testing deadline, but in hindsight I would have had time and should have knit one.
After blocking I see my gauge is definitely off. Should have used a bigger needle, but there is enough drape so I’m not concerned.
This yarn was from Yarnbox quite some time ago. I was unsure how it would knit up and thought if I hated it I could overdye it. But I don’t hate it at all!
May 2018…I have worn this often this spring. We have had a chilly spring and this is a perfect spring shawl.
