Notes

Using my handspun yarn, twisted of the coloured Wensleydale I already used for my Fan Shawl and new orange-dyed Wensleydale, all fibres dyed by Ester.
I looked for a project for especially this yarn as I love the colours, but they would have been lost within a project with long rows as a common Triangle would do. So within this Tentaculum project I hope each coulour can be seen well.

I decided to append some beads at the spiral end of the scarf. May-be the other end will also get some thing? Still don’t know.

I chose the not-so-skinny version (k1, p1, in each yo).

As I love the way AnnieinWoollyland did her Tentaculum, I decided to also reuse her modifications:

  • the yarn-overs do not create a big hole, but three smaller ones,
  • she purls one row
  • and she decreases at the end of the work again to build two spiral ends.

The yarn-over modification:

In the beginning I did not do any yarn-overs, but picked up three new stitches between the first and second stitch. Then in next row did it as the pattern told: in each “yo” one knit stitch, one purl stitch.

As soon as I had enough stitches (I think it was about 10) on the needles I did the yo’s this way: “1k, yo, 1k, yo, 1k, yo, knit to end”.
And again: in next row did it as the pattern told: in each “yo” one knit stitch, one purl stitch.

The purl-row-modification:

The same as AnnieinWoollyland did:

Working it in my favourite knitted fabric pattern with 3 rows knit and one purl. The row with no increases or decreases is purled.

The second-spiral-end decreasing modification:
Again the same as AnnieinWoollyland did:

Yes, started decreasing shortly before the end of the first skein and I’m doing BO4 to decrease by 2sts every 4 rows thus working back to nothing to match the increases.

Here the mods as pattern:

The increasing Part:

  1. Purl 1 row.
  2. BO 2sts, knit to end.
  3. k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, knit to end.
  4. BO 2sts, knit to last 5 sts, 1k1p in first yo, k1, 1k1p in second yo, k1, 1k1p in third yo, k1

The decreasing Part:

  1. Purl 1 row.
  2. BO 4sts, knit to end.
  3. k1, yo, k1, yo, k1, yo, knit to end.
  4. BO 4sts, knit to last 5 sts, 1k1p in first yo, k1, 1k1p in second yo, k1, 1k1p in third yo, k1

Project start
23th February 2013:
Could not stop me from appending the beads at the end of the scarf - my inner little girl was stronger than my mind! ;-)
Posted some photos
24th February 2013:
Just missed the half-yarn-left point for decreasing for the second-spiral-end, so I will now begin the decreasing part at the weight 82 (of 202) grams left. Well, we’ll see how it will become…
Added two (nearly equal) photos of the “point of return”, one for the colours, one for seeing the shape ;-)
25th February 2013:
(Today I’m in vacation! Knitting time!!! YEAH!!!)
Having still about 62 stitches on the needles, but only 13 grams yarn left, I am thinking about how doing the end of the scarf… Well, we’ll see, I will describe my solution as soon as I know it.
Some hours later:
Finished, but now blocking. Increased the decreasing ;-) step by step: several (or just two?) rows with 6 BOs, then two with 8, two with ten, and then I bound off the rest. With the remaing yarn I created a tassel and fixed it at the end. Just thinking about adding there some beads, too.
Waiting now for the scarf getting dry, then I can show you some photos.
3rd March 2013:
Finally managed to take some photos for you.
I love this scarf, the colours, the details!
