To make these I used the Mad for Plaid mittens proportions to get started, and then riffed on the Flip Top mittens. Instead of making a reverse stockinette mitten, I purled a row at the top to make it easy to pick up stitches.
I made two different dragons in part because I dreaded trying to duplicate the first one! Also, it’s easier to show someone else a dragon that’s upside down from the wearer’s perspective. This way he has one to admire and one to show.
For the dragon who’s coiled on his tail with the thumb as his wing, I striped my way up the flip top and then used duplicate stitch to create the impression of the coiled tail.
I finished weaving in ends a little after midnight on Christmas, in time to give them to my son. Here’s hoping he wears them for at least as many hours as I spent knitting them.
