Notes

Started these anklets with this gorgeous yarn. This is an experiment to see if I can use the FLK heel with this pattern, or if I prefer the pattern heel as recommended. It does not appear that the sample socks knitted for the photos fit the wearer too well (heels and toes both appear a bit baggy, but maybe that’s just the inaccuracies of photography), and I’m hoping for a better fit for my feet.

This color seems pretty colorfast, but this is a reminder to myself to wash these with a color catcher for the first wash. It is hand-dyed, after all, and I don’t want the lighter areas to pick up the dark blue color. I have never had a problem with crocking or bleeding with a WSK colorway, but it never hurts to be cautious.

I’m making the “Saturday” sock with at least one change: Since this colorway is highly variegated and is largely a dark colorway, I decided to omit the cable down the center of the sock. It wouldn’t be too visible if I left it in, and removing it shouldn’t affect the fit any. I just felt it wouldn’t be worth the bother to make. In a lighter solid, I’d probably keep it in.

These got put on the back burner for awhile, but I’m working on them again. I have my FLK heels substituted in. Now I’m trying to see if I can figure out a good way to get a good fit on the back side of the heel without raising the height of the front side of the sock. (I want to make a low rise sock.) I’m working short rows using FLK twin stitches on the back side of the sock, extending the heel portion up along the back of the sock.

I wrote up a bit of explanation on how I did this heel modification in this post in the FLK heel group.

It seems to have worked! These socks are pretty much exactly the same height as my shoes are, and just barely peek out of the top for a good “no-show” anklet. They come up to about a centimeter below my ankle bone, and are low rise in the front of my sock too. And the best part - they stay on my feet way better than, say, no-show Sperry brand rtw socks, and there is no sagging or bagging when my ankle/foot flexes and moves.

Unfortunately for those looking to examine the heel for their own anklet attempts, the yarn I chose is so variegated that it is very difficult to see the stitches. I tried to get a few close photos of the heel to help illustrate what I did.

Feedback on the yarn
I just love this yarn! And these photos don’t do the colors justice - Kim from WSK is awesome at what she does! So soft and cozy yet durable enough to make socks out of it. Definitely will continue to buy this yarn and other yarn from her.

Update on how the socks wear after a few months of use
The fit of these socks is perfect. They don’t fall down, even when I wear them all day at work. They don’t pop off of my heels if I slip my shoes off. They stay up and on during moderate activity (like my mile-ish walk down and back to/from the grocery store). I haven’t tried running in the socks but they work well for what I’d consider daily use. The socks are perfect summer socks and don’t feel hot and sweaty while worn.

After two years worth of wear - LOVE these socks! They don’t slip down and are holding up beautifully.
