Increased toe to 64 stitches. (I used the toe technique, including Judy’s Magic Cast-on, included in the Straight Up Socks pattern.)
Worked 10 rows to finish off toe prior to changing to MC (rainbow) for sock body.
Used about 3g of CC yarn (yellow) per toe.
I did the cast-on and toe increases TAAT using magic loop, but switched to a single short circular needle to do the even tube portion of the foot. I’ve just been shuffling them on and off the longer needle to work them close together, nearly two-at-a-time.
My gauge is very close whether the socks are worked TAAT with ML or individually on the short circular needle (9.5 spi).
And I got lucky - it looks like the stripes will be identical twins down to the row! Yay!
Decreased heel to 11 stitches per needle before using Kitchener stitch to graft together.
I worked a few rows of the sock leg before offloading the stitches to waste yarn and working on the afterthought heel. Since this is only my second pair of socks and first of this style of heel, I didn’t want to work a bunch more of the sock leg without being fairly certain it was all going to fit properly. Both heels are done and grafted closed, and the socks seem to fit!
Back to the legs next. These have been my “portable project” so the progress has been slower because I haven’t been devoting time to them daily. One leg is an entire rainbow’s worth of color repeats tall (I think I’ll do one more rainbow repeat) and the other leg needs a bit of catching up. Again, I swapped the socks around so I could ensure they were fitting. The small 8” circular needle has proven to be an efficient way to work the legs.
Update 4/12: I’m super happy with how these socks are coming along. Hard to say since I haven’t worn them “for real” yet, but it seems they are more comfortable than my first pair since they are knit at a finer gauge. They fit very well - hopefully not too small, as they seem quite snug (but not tight). We shall see how they wear. Progress made: One leg is probably completed except for the bind-off, and the other leg is about halfway done. That is, unless I decide to do a third repeat… I think I have just one repeat’s worth of yarn left on each ball. It won’t really be useful for much else, so maybe I should just go ahead and use it here…I’ll probably have to do an increase somewhere to accommodate my the width of my calves if I do keep going.
Now that these socks are done and I’ve been able to wear them, I think if I were making them again, I’d make them a row or two longer before beginning the heel. That heel fits me very snug and a row or two more length in the foot might have been a better choice. Still wearable! I like this sock knit at this gauge better than a sock at a looser gauge.
