This was my first attempt at using any of the Knitting Looms I picked up months ago at the local thrift shop. I trolled YouTube all morning watching videos on how-to use and fasten off my work, used my own knowledge of joining yarn from my crocheting and just decided to go with it. The best tidbit of info that I found about loom knitting was to start with a slip stitch! Genius!!
Using two strands of worsted weight Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (Plum was the color, I believe) and my red, 31-peg round loom I did a basic E-Stitch. I worked in the round until the smaller ball of yarn I was using ran out, then I joined in some Red Heart Super Saver Heather Grey and kept on going until I had used about half the smaller ball I had grabbed. After that I joined more of the purple in and went crazy for a while. Once I decided how long the scarf needed to be (well approximately at least, 2 year-olds don’t hold still enough to do really accurate measurements) I guesstimated the halfway point and when I would need to add the remaining grey back in. I finished the scarf body off with a few more rounds of the purple to make it symmetrical-ish and ended by removing from the loom and sewing the end flat. I repeated the sewing on the starting end of the scarf, weaved in all my ends and added tassels to all four corners.
Overall, I am happy with the way this project turned out. It’s not half bad for my very first attempt and winging the whole thing. The scarf did turn out a little large for Libby, but that’s ok, since I’m pretty sure she’ll only be growing. Maybe by the time fall/winter come around it will fit well, although that is a scary thought on it’s own.
