Notes

PLEASE NOTE - I use my Ravelry project page to keep detailed notes. Pieces of paper are easily lost and perhaps my notes will help a fellow Ravelry friend smiling_face_with_3_hearts

OH MY - just discovered Marie Wallin’s new collection MEADOW - thrilled that my collection of Marie Wallin SPINDRIFT sweaters will be growing heavy_heart_exclamationheavy_heart_exclamationheavy_heart_exclamation

FYI - from the sale of each MEADOW, about $1.25 will be donated by Marie Wallin for the Shetland MRI Scanner fund as 600 residents of Shetland have to travel a great distance for an MRI. Looking forward to purchasing my MEADOW to help donate to the cause and to add to my collection soon heart_eyes

YOKE white_check_mark

12-04-19 THANK YOU Marie Wallin smiling_face_with_3_hearts

Kitchener Stitched underarm stitches and all tails weaved - I DID IT - FINALLY DONE heart

Really love how the moss stitch edge flairs and gives the body an A-line shape even though there are no decreases in the bodyheart_eyes

Underarm to edge of sleeve = 17.5”
Center neck edge to center bottom edge = 28”. Very happy I knit 2 extra skeins into the body length heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

12-03-19 Beautiful snow snowflake everywhere … just might finish by tonight heart
12-02-19 My goal was to finish my Muckle Roe in 3 months … now only about 5,000 stitches to the neckline …
12-01-19 Now 47 rounds to neckline … really heart the symmetry of the yoke decreases heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament
11-30-19 Finally able to attack the last stretch of the yoke to the neckline - 60 rounds to go!! Switched to 80cm circular. New yarn matches perfectly heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

11-23-19 Received my yarn but too busy shopping, baking, preparing for Thanksgiving star-struck
11-19-19 Only 66 rounds to the neck … just ordered more yarn as I knew I knit up 2 extra skeins in the body … I do not worry at all about different dye lots with Jamieson’s Shetland Spindrift as it is the best !!!

11-18-19 Now 70 rounds to the neck …

11-17-19 Only 84 rounds to the neck heart_eyes

11-14-19 Finished required rounds and second decrease round … only 98 rounds to the neck ribbingheavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

After joining sleeves, successfully knit set up for yoke, first decrease round and placed stitch markers, which are necessary and very helpful now.

BODY white_check_mark

11-13-19 After knitting 82 rounds with Granite, switched to my longer Zing US 2 (47”) circular and successfully joined sleeves.

11-12-19 Have 16.75” smiling_face_with_3_hearts Getting anxious to join sleeves and knit the yoke heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

11-05-19 Body now measures 15” … finally pressed bottom moss stitch edge by placing a thick terry towel on my ironing board, placing my Muckle Roe edge wrong side up on top of the thick terry towel, then placing a wet fine cotton handkerchief on top for my press cloth … with my iron full of water, heat set on highest level, I carefully steam pressed the edge, stopping to slowly rotate my Muckle Roe to repeat until all of the edge was pressed. The cast on edge of my sleeves do not curl, but this stopped the cast on edge of the body from curling wink

Went to Provincetown, MA yesterday. Beautiful day to roam around and shop without the summer crowds heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

10-30-19 STILL AT IT heart Getting approximately 21 rounds per Granite skein using US 2 circular, which is a little more than 2”. After setting up and knitting body just like my right and left sleeves and with 32 more rounds of Granite, my Muckle Roe body currently measures approximately 13”. Will probably continue to knit for a total length of 17.75” (instead of pattern body length of 15.75”) before adding sleeves and knitting yoke. ONWARD heavy_heart_exclamationheavy_heart_exclamation

10-20-19 Steadily knitting body stockinette with Granite and will add some length.

Received notification last Thursday that my copy of MEADOW is in the mail and also received PDF via e-mail - thank you Marie Wallin heart

10-18-19 Finished chart after 3 days of beautiful peak leaf peeping leavesmaple_leaffallen_leaf in Vermont heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament Switched to US 2 and knitting with Granite to join sleeves will take awhile - will probably add length heart_eyes

10-13-19 Finally finished fourth design!!! Knitting last 10 rows of chart with Granite and Twilight. Anxious to switch to my Zing size US 2 (80cm) to knit with Granite up to yoke smiling_face_with_3_hearts

10-10-19 Determined to finish the fourth design to move on to the final repeat of the first design … before the push to knit the “gray slog” up to the yoke … spending too much time browsing Ravelry, dreaming and faving more of Marie Wallin’s designs, looking for her books (ordered MEADOW yesterday) and shopping for yarn online face_with_rolling_eyes

09-30-19 Finished the third design and started fourth design knitting with Damask and Wild Violet again …

09-28-19. Started third design of chart knitting with Twinkle and Mist. Knit up to row 34.

Successfully finished the second design of the chart, which I found to be the one to concentrate on the most! Thrilled I did not have to frog frog

09-27-19 Knit up to row 23 …
09-26-19 Knit up to row 21 …
09-25-19 Knit into row 17 …
09-24-19 Switched to my Zing US3 (also 80cm) after finishing my moss stitch. Happily knitting the fair isle chart up to row 10 star-struck

09-23-19 Using my Zing US2 (2.75mm) (80cm - almost 31.5” in length) successfully cast on yesterday and knit moss stitch. Loving that the body of this design has no decreases or increases up to yoke heart_eyes

09-22-19 Time for the big cast on with Twilight heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

My choice for “Long-tail” Cast On: Pull a strand of yarn from inside and also from outside of skein and holding together, create a slip knot leaving 8” tails. Place slip knot on needle, and cast on desired number of stitches (plus another one for joining in the round) as usual for long-tail cast on method evenly (not too tight!). Note: First slip knot will be removed and is not included in cast on number. After casting on desired number of stitches (plus another extra one for joining in the round), carefully cut the tail pulled from the inside of the skein leaving 8”/20cm to weave in later, so now only working yarn from outside of skein remains.
Set-up row (RS): Continuing with remaining working yarn, join in the round, BUT drop first stitch on left needle without working it by pulling tails to undo slip knot and then slip next stitch on left needle over first stitch on right needle slip knot at end. (This is that extra plus one!). Weave in one tail at one end and two tails on the other end. This method takes the guessing out of how long your yarn needs to be for casting on a large number of stitches.

LEFT SLEEVE white_check_mark

09-21-19 Ended on round 154 just like right sleeve - finished left sleeve smiling_face_with_3_hearts

09-20-19 Knit up to round 127.

09-19-19 Knit up to round 105 during our return road trip from NH.

NO TIME to knit while vacationing in North Conway, NH. Will return in a few weeks to see the colors of autumn fallen_leaf maple_leaf leaves Highly recommend the 5 hour round trip train ride (includes nice lunch in dining car) from North Conway to Crawford Notch steam_locomotive

09-15-19 Knit up to round 93.

09-14-19 Found time today to finish the chart and switch to US2 to knit stockinette and finish increases.

09-12-19 Knit up to row 45 of chart.

09-11-19 Following my notes below for my right sleeve, successfully cast on, knit moss stitch and 34 rows of chart. Knitting M1L instead of M1R for increases at end of rows because of fair isle chart.

RIGHT SLEEVE white_check_mark

09-10-19 Ended on round 154 - done knitting right sleeve heavy_heart_exclamation_mark_ornament

09-09-19 On round 100 and happily knitting stockinette rounds with my necessary M1R increases, even though I just realized my increases should be on the 8th round 7 times (not on the 7th round 7 times) but I am not reknitting as my increases are fine as long as I repeat the same for my left sleeve.

(My “corrected” increases should be 73,74; 81,82; 89,90; 107,108; 115,116; 123,124; 131,132; and 139,140, but I am good with what I knit.)

09-08-19 Continuing with Granite (instead of Wren) my graduated M1R increases at end of each round for right sleeve are as follows: 73,74; 80,81; 87,88; 94,95; 101,102; 108,109; 115,116; and 122,123.

According to gauge, knitting with US2 should reach the 17 1/2” sleeve length after knitting 78 rounds with Granite which is cast on, 7 rounds of moss stitch (with US 2) then 67 rounds of chart + 1 (all with US 3) and then 78 rounds of Granite (with US2) for a total of 154 rounds.

09-07-19 Switched to US2 (Zing 2.75mm 40cm) and happy my stitch count is 97 and my gauge is right on with 9”.

Knit up to row 67 finally finishing chart to my satisfaction after much hemming and hawing over what color to knit with … now I can enjoy finishing my right sleeve, move on to the left sleeve and then the body of my Muckle Roe. Anxious to knit those decreases for the yoke section smiling_face_with_3_hearts

09-05-19 Reintroduced Twilight (instead of Wren) and Granite (instead of Mooskit) on row 57.

Introduced Wild Violet (instead of Mooskit/Granite) and reintroduced Damask (instead of Wren) on rows 41-56. Completed fourth pattern of chart.

09-04-19 Continuing with Granite (instead of Mooskit) then reintroduced Twilight (instead of Wren), on rows 28-38, introduced Mist (instead of Mooskit/Granite) on row 28. Dropped Mist on row 39 for Granite and completed third pattern of chart, rows 28-38.

Continuing with Granite (instead of Mooskit) introduced Damask (instead of Wren) and completed second pattern of chart, rows 15 through 25.

09-03-19 Received my yarn today heart Successfully cast on right sleeve knitting with Twilight (instead of Mooskit) using Zing US 2 circular (2.75mm 40cm). Completed moss stitch and switched to Zing US 3 circular (3.25mm 40cm) and started row 1 of chart knitting with Granite (instead of Twilight, or Mooskit). Continuing with Granite (instead of Mooskit) knit withTwilight (instead of Wren) for first pattern of chart rows 2-4, increasing 1 stitch M1R at end of rows 4, 5; 8,9; 12,13; 16,17; 20,21; 24,25; 28,29; 32,33; and then 37,38; 42,43; 47,48; 52,53; 57,58 and 62,63. (Will increase M1L when knitting left sleeve.) I created this graduated sleeve technique when knitting my Bressay and loved it! Also knitting the increases this way keeps the pattern of the chart easily on track.

08-28-19 Received Mist today - really love it - always like to add my favorite color (lavender) to my projects and hoping Granite is a light white gray crossed_fingers

08-24-19 As Muckle Roe is knit seamless bottom up, I will cast on sleeves and bottom of sweater to knit moss stitch with Twilight (instead of Mooskit). This will prevent the edges from showing wear/tear and soiling. Then I will switch to Granite (instead of Mooskit) for background and body of sweater/sleeves. Will then knit chart switching Twilight (instead of Wren) for the first 12 rows of the chart, proceeding with Damask (instead of Wren) for rows 15 through 25, then with Wild Violet (instead of Mooskit) and Twilight (instead of Wren) for rows 28 through 38…hmmm…dare I introduce another color?!?!? Yes, I do believe then knitting rows 41 through 56 with Mist (instead of Mooskit) to end chart rows 61 through 67 with Twilight (instead of Wren) to blend again into Granite for the body of the sweater/sleeves. This switching back and forth of colors will hopefully give me the palette I desire.

After finishing my Skerries Mittens to get back into fair isle knitting, I have been agonizing over what colors to choose to knit my next SHETLAND Marie Wallin project, and finally made my decision this morning to knit Muckle Roe in the above colors. Just bought all my yarn on sale at Little Knits yarn (Also envision knitting BLOOMSBURY Dora and Angelic in my futureheavy_heart_exclamation)
