Patrick requested an adult-sized version of the hat I made for Everett. I followed this pattern, modified to fit a 23-inch head and adding a hem for extra warmth and softness.

This was my first hemmed hat, and it took a few tries to get the fit right. The finished hat is a little tight around the ears, but it’s still comfortable. It I made it again, I might add a few more stitches so it wouldn’t be quite so snug. I like the way it looks though!

Gauge = 4 st/in

For the inside of the hem, I used five strands of lace-weight recycled cashmere held together. CO 72, worked in st st until cashmere ran out, followed by two rows of st st in white, then one purl row, 10 rows st st in white, 2 yellow, 4 brown, 2 yellow. After the hat was done, I sewed the hem closed at the top of these stripes using these instructions.

Next, I knit in white until the hat was 6.25 inches long, measuring from the purl row. I worked the crown decreases as described in the pattern for the Youth size.
