I combined weaving and knitting to create this sweater using the template based methods in my book Knit in New Directions. It’s a combo of lots of fingering weight yarns, mainly Merino, but I did combine fibers too. Each woven piece, done on the rigid heddle and Saori looms, had the edges serged and turned first. The weft was a crochet cotton thread on the rigid heddle that matched the Saori pre-wound black cotton warps. Then I picked up off the very edge to add the knitting using lots of different techniques including fair isle and modular knitting. Some of the knitted pieces were completed separately and joined to the other fabric. I used the template to size and place the pieces leaving 1/4” around each piece of weaving for the serge and turn. Once the template was completely covered and the body was constructed, I knit the sleeves using similar colors and patterns…but they don’t match. (of course not!) I set in the sleeves and the edges were all finished with a seed stitch border and hem. I found the perfect square buttons to finish it off.
