Quite happy with this though will probably overdye it as the pattern is too obscured by the busy colours. I will admit that it does look better blocked with the busy colours, but still too busy for my tastes! Only thing I wish I’d paid more attention to was yarn usage as I could’ve quite easily have expanded this by 2-4 repeats of the main chart. As it is I have 32g of yarn left - I hate large amounts of leftover yarn.
Reading the main chart
The main chart was really throwing me after I knit the first repeat of it. Normally I don’t struggle with charts, but the repeat confused me. The repeat is NOT to be repeated across the entire row. It is repeated in the middle so when you are on the second repeat of the chart you knit that repeat twice in a row, the third repeat then knit it 3x in a row. If it were written it out it would have stars around it indicating to repeat it X times with the two other bits of chart bracketing that repeat. I hope that makes sense for others!
Yarn
This yarn looked lovely in the hank, but it is ugly knit up. Totally blotchy and horrible - makes it hard to see what is going on as I knit. Will overdye it when I’m done. Not really sure what kind of pattern you could knit with a highly variegated laceweight.
Starting weight of yarn 108g
after 4th repeat - 97g
after 8th repeat - 88g
after 10th repeat (plus first row of chart) - 75g
after 12th repeat - 62g
after 13th repeat - 57g
after border - 41g (border took 16g)
After bind off - 76g
22 Sept
8 repeats of main chart done. 5 more to go before the edge.
11 Sept
SEVERAL false starts, but now on my way with 3 repeats of the main chart under my belt (lifelines put in after each complete repeat - I actually keep the one for the previous repeat in in case it turns out the last repeat was bad).
2 Sept
The yarn is flashing so I’ve ripped out and gone up a needle size (from 3.75mm to 4.0mm) - don’t think it’s a big enough jump to cure it of the flashing, but think 4.5 might make it too open.

First true lace project. Not sure if I’ve chosen the right size needles - don’t want it too dense, but don’t want it to be too open either…
