I’ll make the thumb after about 42 rows of shrooms.

Knit 25
Now place the next 10 sts of this rnd on to scrap yarn Cast on 10-
Knit 25 of the remaining sts to the end of the rnd.
Pick up 10 sts on the hand section of your mitten on the opposite side to the thumb sts that you have just placed back on to your needles. There are now 20 thumb sts in total which you will now work in the round to create the thumb.
Knit 10 rounds.
