Jennifer asked that I make this baby blanket to give to a friend expecting a boy. I looked at a number of patterns for the base granny square blanket, making it fairly easy to construct. I used yarn I already had. It took about 1 skein of white, less than that of gray, and much less of cobalt blue, gold, and autumn red. I used an I hook for most of the blanket and a J hook for the final row because the yarn was thinner than the rest.

This pattern for the Pooh characters is the only one I found with a Winnie the Pooh applique that was as detailed and included all of him.

When I was making and assembling the applique, it was very helpful to have a number of good photos in the pattern for it. I do not have a glue gun or experience using one, so I sewed my pieces together and sewed the applique onto the blanket. I was glad to be able to get it sewed on securely without stitches showing on the back of the blanket. I used black yarn to embroider the face, using French knots for the eyes. I used crochet thread and embroidered HUNNY on the pot. My pot seemed not to have enough space for the honey drips in the pattern, so I improvised, using images of Pooh for inspiration.
