Using long strands and tying on top like this one.

Hat: At start I did 3 rows of 8 hdc for a point, but after that I repeated the next row 1 time and then mostly did a regular hat from that point on, as I knew it would be hard to get a lot of yarn compressed enough to make the top knot anywhere similar to the one shown in the movie. I joined rows on the hat this time, as the joining would be covered by hair. (To make yarn pieces for a top knot I made them long enough so that when attached on the bottom row they would extend 3 or 4 inches past the top of the point on the hat. For the next row I attached one from the previous row, held the hat upside down and trimmed that piece to be the same length. Took that piece off hat and used it to measure and cut the pieces for the next row). For hair I started with yarn pieces added every other row for about 3 rows, then every 3 rows, but after taking yarn apart for nearly 2 rows from the bottom, I could see that 2 rows would be plenty on this small hat. I took the rest of the yarn pieces off and left the bottom two rows. After taking apart about 6 stitches on each row, I sewed a loop of yarn same color as hair over at the base of the top point to contain the yarn as I continued. After I had all that done, I brushed the top knot section. Brushing it tended to pull the strands below, so I sewed into the base of top knot, putting the needle straight across just above the blue band several times around the base to help it stand up better.

I made a blue band with a row of hdc to go around the base of the top knot.

Did the ears the same as pattern till Row 5. Row 5: Did one dc and sc the rest of the row. For Row 6 I did all fpdc, and added Row 7 of sc’s to join the tops of Rows 5 and 6. I sewed the v shape at the bottom of the ear nearly closed and placed the ears by folding the bottom of the hat with center front and center back together in the middle and put ears on each side. After headband was attached, I tacked the ears so the tops would stick up over the headband.

Headband is two rows of hdc. Flower in the middle: magic circle, 5 hdc’s for center. Petals are ch 3, 2 dc, ch 3. Smaller flowers: magic circle, 4 sc, ch 2, hdc, ch 2. I placed the smaller flowers further towards the ears than I wish I had. I did leaves under the center flower, but they are not really used in headband for the 2nd movie. Found that in between flowers look all yellow with a round center and about 8 points. Made a couple.
