9/30/12-- So far so good. I’m done with the yoke and have gotten halfway through the second repeat of the gull lace pattern. Long way to go. Forgot how much I like bulky, though…it knits up quickly, relatively speaking.
10/1/12-- tried sweater on DD this morning. yoke is to size, time to split for sleeves. I poured through forum notes about this pattern. Post about waste yarn to hold first and last 25sts was helpful. Additionally, this blog post is mucho important.
11/25/12-- knitting all finished and yarn ends sewn in. Just need to create crocheted loops and sew on buttons. Need to decide on buttons.
11/26/12-- buttons ordered!
(Note on fit: this was made following instructions,as written, except for doing it on circular needles and sleeves in the round at the end. Even before blocking it fits well, exactly what I was hoping for- for after blocking to have it sizing up for extended wear. However, my one complaint is it seems a bit snug right at the underarms, both underarms. The additional stitch count was right but nonetheless, it is snug there. I may try to just “block” that area for now as I’m not wanting the rest of the sweater any larger at this point. Future reference, I might wish to add in even an ADDITIONAL 7 stitches under each arm, addition to what the instructions say. I just prefer roomier movement in the underarm. Otherwise, quite pleased with the outcome.)
Sizing/Pattern Notes:
For this size made in bulky yarn, I made 15 gull pattern repeats (4 rows to each repeat) in body (after yoke to garter stitch bottom border) as well as 15 repeats in the sleeves. Specifically for the sleeves--I had worked through row 4 of the gull pattern before putting sleeve stitches on holders, thus, when i started back at the sleeves, I picked up the 42 stitches on the sleeve, then worked row 1 of the “gull pattern” in PURL as to get back around in the proper direction I needed to be for knitting the rest of the sleeve on circulars (magic loop.) I criss-crossed the two end stitches to join the round and continued with row 2 of gull pattern as written (though since worked in the round rows 1 & 3 were worked as KNIT stitches, not Purl.) Garter stitch cuff band of sleeves: I could have had more of a decrease at the cuff… perhaps a quicker decrease (of like K4, K2TOG across??) or else repeated the pattern decrease another time or two in additional row(s)… However, for this sweater I did up 4 garter stitch ridges + the live knit stitches that were on the needle and then I CO loosely in knit.
