28.1.13
I ordered this dress in mail last week and cast on the same day it arrived. I am so excited to make this. I am going to make the largest size and see who it will fit in the end. I had to go up to 3.5 (US4) needles in order to get gage. The yarn is much softer that I had anticipated but also much thinner. It seems more like a lace weight to me.
notes on the knitting:
- co using 3.75mm (US5) using long tail co to keep it stretchy
- using a ssk for left handed decreases as I prefer them (over k2tog tbl) and it seems most other people have noted that they did this as well

Knitting is going well so far. The fabric is turning out quite light and airy and oh so soft.
- I have decided to knit the body an inch or so longer (to 10.5”) as the main part of the dress seems a bit short

k the rest as per pattern. I have tried this dress on my 1 year old and it fits wonderfully. I am glad though that I made it a bit longer. It also fits my 2 year old but looks more like a tunic then a dress. And for fun I tried it on my 4 year old and it fits her as well. (All of my girls seem to have roughly the same chest size.) It just looks like a top. Additional mods include…
- picked up 1 st on either side of the 10 set aside to fill in so there would not be a little hole
- used jssbo for the neck and arms and have had no trouble with the size of the neck opening
- added the crocheted edge suggested to the arms as well
Other then that I am very pleased with the pattern and the final product. I am so pleased that I am going to try and size it up for my other 2 daughters.
So, on US4 needles knitting the larger size and a bit longer (10”) the dress came out to be a 12 to 18 month size with (a bit of) room to grow.
Blogged about the dress here.
