My daughter recently started junior kindergarten. She is my first child to go to school so a few tears were shed, by me, not her, she was all to excited to start this adventure and leave me. To start off the year on the right foot I wanted to make her teacher a little something. A good luck gift for the year. What better to give a teacher then an apple, or an apple cozy.

I decided to try the Pear / Apple Cozy by Susan B. Anderson. It turned out ok but I am not a fan of the picot edge so I just bound off instead. It didn’t turn out as nice as the original.

Next I tried the Silly Apple Cozy by Casey Newman as it looked nice in the project pictures. This turned out quite well. I knit as per pattern but changed to brown for the last round. Instead of binding off I made a little I-cord for a stem. I then knit a leaf and back-stitched in on by the stem. Sew on a button and complete.

If I were to make another I think I would sew the leaf onto the cozy over the button so it is hidden. I also slipped the first stitch of every round when working back and forth and this made the opening rather tight and I had to stretch it out quite a bit when blocking. Next time, do not slip first stitch.
