Notes

I’ve been wanting to make this pattern for a long time and thought it would be fun to work it up in a 6-skein gradience. It is hard to see in the photos, but the gradience transitions from a medium yellow-green to a pale grey.

Modifications/Lessons Learned:
1. The general instructions for using a gradience yarn are to work the first color approximately half-way through, then begin to alternate the first and second colors. When the first color runs out, begin the third color, and when the second color runs out, begin the fourth color, alternating colors every other row. Continue in this manner adding & alternating skeins, ending pattern with last skein alone. That’s well and good for a one-piece project, but I had to proceed differently since I had sleeves and a collar to make as well the body, which is (thankfully) made in one piece.

  1. I used the darkest color for the bottom body. I used much more than 1/2 a skein before introducing the second color. Since the rows were so long and included bobbles and lace, the darkest gradient didn’t go very far.

  2. When I began alternating colors and adding skeins, I put a clip-on marker at each color change so I could later match the color changes on the sleeves.

  3. Instead of making the decreases in the chevrons, I closed up the leaves at the top of the leaf columns. To achieve the A-line, I decreased alternating columns after the 11th repeat and the remaining after the 12th repeat.

  4. To avoid running out of the last color, I knit the collar before knitting the sleeves.

  5. I just had to add a leaf column up the center of the sleeves.

  6. As other ravelers have noted, this pattern runs large. I didn’t increase to the full number of stitches before casting off for the sleeve underarm.
