Knitting in much thicker yarn than recommended, I did not use any of the actual hat patterns in the book -- instead, I used the chart for cuff-down socks.

Started with 2x2 rib long tail cast on, 80 stitches.

Since the Marius pattern always repeats at 18 stitches, I didn’t know what to do with the extra 8 stitches I got on my hat. I didn’t want to decrease to 72 or increase to 90, so I just added some freeform doodles in the middle of the back (picture 3).

I’m sure there is a way to knit the pattern over 80 stitches, as the sock pattern I used was for 40 stitches per sock. There are mysterious numbers and arrows on the diagram that I don’t know how to interpret yet.
