Notes

11/04/2024 - Every year for my charity dolls, I like to spice up the dresses the dolls come in by adding an applique at the front of the dress, adding a cute pair of shoes and making some kind of fun hand bag to finish the outfit off. For 2024, I made bags like this but out of fabric. For 2025, I thought I would try crocheting the same shape.

I used a YouTube tutorial by Shyler crochets for for both versions of the bags. After the fact, I found a couple of variations of the bag style here on Ravelry (patterns linked in project details).

  1. For the 1st bag (single crochet version), I used a flat slip stitch technique to sew up the bag. I was not really sure it was worth the extra effort, so for the 2nd and 3rd bags, I used a whip stitch to seam them.
  2. I did 3 different stitch patterns. Bag 01 is single crochet, Bag 02 is double crochet and Bag 03 is the even moss stitch that can be found in Shyler crochets’ video. I like the final fabric of the double crochet or even moss stitch the best, so if I make more of them, I will use one of those two stitches.
  3. Once I had the bags seamed, I did a round of single crochet around the opening to stabilize it. While doing this, I chained 3 stitches at the bag peeks to make loops for the leather strap.
  4. The single and double crochet bags took about 7-8gm/16-17 yards and the even moss stitch bag too about 11-12gm/24-25 yards of DK weight yarn.

Bag 01: chained 13, did single crochet rows till I got to a 2.25” x 6.75” rectangle. Flat single crochet to seam the ends.

Bag 02: chained 12, did double crochet rows till I got to a 2.25” x 6.75” rectangle. Whip stitch to seam the ends.

Bag 03: chained 11, did even moss stitch till I got to a 2” x 6” rectangle. Whip stitch to seam the ends.
