After visiting Iceland several years ago and admiring the traditional lopepeysa sweaters worn by the locals all over the country, I was hooked and wanted to make my own. It was a fun project and worked up quickly.
One important note about this pattern. I started out using the version of the pattern published in a book called “Knitting with Icelandic Wool”. All was well until row 21 of the yoke where there seemed to be an error in the chart. I had followed the chart exactly but when I started to decrease it no longer lined up. I took the sweater in to my LYS (Dublin Bay Knitting in Portland, OR) for help. The person assisting me ran into the same issue and spent over two hours trying to figure out what was going on with it when everything seemed to be exactly in line with the chart. We finally discovered there is another version of the same pattern available for download - same sweater and pattern author - but the chart for the yoke is slightly different. I downloaded the pattern, took out the yoke and started over and it worked perfectly. I was surprised that no one had mentioned this error on Ravelry. My advice would be to use the web download version of the pattern and not the version from the book. I purchased the download version from Patternfish.
Other than that situation, this was a really fun project and I was happy with how it turned out, especially after blocking. The pattern seemed to run a little small even though I was very close to gauge. My husband generally wears a size L sweater but I had to size up to an XXL on size 8 needles (rather than 7).
