I got four inches in and had Chris try them on: too snug (though they fit me perfectly!) so I ripped back to the start of the twisted stitches and added 4 stitches to give him a little more wiggle room.

I also, along the way, decided that I preferred the look of the cables when they alternate every cross over/under like a celtic knot, so this gave me a chance to make it consistent from the start.

8 cable repeats (5”) before starting gusset (7 would have been 4.5”)

Turned heel, m1 in the middle to keep the ribbing pattern. For future reference, add stitches in multiples of 3.
