General notes

First sock: CO 60 sts Old Norwegian, divided evenly for the cuff but split into 28 sts on needle 1 & 32 sts on needle 2 to work the leg & heel

Second sock: stitch counts exactly according to pattern, Old Norwegian CO again

The first sock starts off blue-green, then changes suddenly to gray halfway down the leg, has a gray heel, and fades back to blue-green in the middle of the foot. The second sock starts off blue-green and fades to gray just before the heel; I’m currently (as of 6 August) working the gusset decreases and I’m curious to see if it’ll change suddenly to blue-gray on the foot. I hope it does, since that would be interesting/exciting! (See last pic for the color changes.)

16.07.2017

I’m going on a vacation in a few days and I wanted to bring some sock knitting that’s not colorwork and not already almost done.

30.07.2017

These have taken a back seat since I started my Reyna shawl while I was on vacation but I’m determined to get them done! Just finished the gusset on the first sock. Only decreasing to 64 stitches around for the foot even though I did a 60 stitch leg.

31.07.2017

Ended up with 28 instep stitches and 36 sole stitches, so I moved 4 of the sole stitches to needle 1 and placed a marker to differentiate them from the instep stitches which are worked in pattern. Not sure if this is normal for this pattern or if it’s because I started with 60 stitches. It’s not a problem at all though.

A note for future projects: I love the way Zauberball looks in stockinette on 2.25mm needles!

01.08.2017

Doing the toe on the first sock today. Even more rejiggering of stitches required: when I was knitting the foot, I had 28 instep sts and then 4 sole sts on needle 1, and 32 sole sts on needle 2, but for the toe I moved them around so needle 1 had 2 sole sts, 28 instep sts, then 2 sole sts.

I’m continuing in pattern instead of stockinette for the top of the toe until row 16; first and last 2 sts on needle 1 are always knit (not purled) during the non-decrease rounds, since they’re part of the line of decreases.

Casting on the full 64 sts as per the pattern for the second sock.

03.08.2017

Second sock is ready for the heel!

06.08.2017

Turned the heel & picked up stitches, time to start the gusset on the second sock. I actually watched a video about how to pick up along a garter edge this time; not sure yet if it’ll look any better than the “guesstimated” job I did on Sock 1 (I’ll report back in a few rounds), but it certainly made it easier to count rows.

It occurs to me now that the differing leg stitch counts for the two socks will mean this sock needs one more round of gusset decreases, but I don’t think the difference in fit will be super noticeable. We’ll see!

07.08.2017

Done! Finished the foot while rewatching CA:TWS (y’all, I forgot how much I absolutely love that movie!) and then watching the Jays lose to the Astros in the 9th (boo).

Honestly, I don’t really like these socks, but they’re all kitchenered together and the ends are all woven in and they are DONE and THAT IS WHAT MATTERS.
