Maybe I spend to long in the shower thinking about it instead of getting on with my life, but I’m not in love with my handknit washcloths (these and these). I love that they are handknit and I love my color choices, but it bothers me when they stretch, the color changes aren’t the same on both sides and the edges are wonky. Thus begins my quest for the perfect handknit washcloth: reversible, crisp matching edges, and not too stretchy!

These stitch patterns probably already exist somewhere, but I just made them up! Going for reversible patterns that lay flat.

first washcloth: slip rib
second washcloth: rib-garter chevrons
third: modified slip-garter

The idea is to have the same number of knits, purls, and slip stitches on each side on average - this prevents the fabric created from the stitch curling.
