Pattern Notes: If I was going to make this again I would:
On the central runner --
- Use a provisional cast on
- Slip the first stitch of every row including the WS purl rows; knit the last stitch of RS row and purl last stitch of WS row
- Repeat Rows 9-16 until reach a total of 34 complete diamonds
- Omit WS row 288 and start picking up stitches
- Pick up and knit 140 stitches along each long side. These should be redistributed on the needles by moving the first 2 stitches and the last two stitches on the short sides so there are 8 stitches on each short side and 144 stitches on each long side.
- Row 9a ~ I would omit the double YO for a single YO and on the next row simply K1,P1 in the YO on the short sides so the holes are about the same size.
- Error Beginning on Row 11 ~ the pattern says to repeat 39 times, this should read 27 times ~ total of 28 pattern repeats. (The mesh rounds are an 8 stitch repeat, but the leaves are a 12 stitch repeat)
- Error Row 45 ~ the pattern has a K2tog that should be changed to a SK2togP
- Row 57 ~ I would change the YO 6x to YO 3x and then do K1,P1 X 4 in the triple YO on the following row. I personally don’t care for the huge hole in the peacock’s eye of the original pattern instructions
I started dry blocking just to get an idea of how big it would be, and this will take a lot of time. Not sure if I like the really huge peacock’s eye--I’ve always made them with 2-3 YO not 6! I also altered the crocheted bind off to have more loops around the “eye”.
Will have to wait to wet block it when I have more time to devote to the task.
