15 May 2017: Done! Ready to put into the Soak tomorrow. LOVE it so far, and blocking will make it even better.
2 May 2017: Almost done with first sleeve. Here are the sleeve mods I’m using:
- Pick up 11 stitches; 62 stitches on needles.
- Decrease two stitches on first round after pickup (rather than one stitch from beginning of round, space these so they help close any gaps from pickup round; this was close to picked up vs held stitches on first sleeve). 60 stitches.
- Knit 22 rounds in pattern (including pick up round).
- On round 23, decrease two as described in pattern.
- Continue in pattern, decreasing every 12 rounds 6 more times. 46 stitches.
- Knit another 11 rounds.
- On 12th (decrease) round, decrease a total of 6 stitches to get to 40 (multiple of 4) to do seeded rib cuff instead of pattern-specified plain ribbing for cuff. I did decreases as follows: k1, k2tog, (k6, k2tog)x4, k8, ssk, k1. If I had been more awake, I’d have figured out the spacing better so it wasn’t a weird k8 for the last one. Oh well.
- Knit 20 rounds in seeded rib.
- Bind sleeves off using Icelandic Bind off. (I don’t want flare, so not using same bind off I used for body.)
24 April 2017: Several projects mention tight sleeves, and I want to avoid that. After a couple of false starts on the sleeves, I’ve finally figured out what I want to do. I had 51 held on waste yarn, so I cast on 11 and then on the next round decreased two stitches so my count was 60. I then completed 22 rounds from the pickup round and did my first “regular” decrease round on round 23. Planning to do decreases every 12 rounds a few times and then evaluate.
20 April 2017: Cast off the front using Lacey bind off again. Bound off on purl side to match hem, but then realized that the top part of the collar will be flipped, so you see the other side. I’m okay with that, but it’s something I should remember to pay attention to on future projects.
8 April 2017: Finally picked up the stitches for the front. Back on track!
31 March 2017: Finished the hem tonight. I wasn’t sure that this yarn could hold up to a sewn bind off, so decided to go a different route. Started out trying Cap Sease’s “Russian” bind off for the hem, but decided to do Lacey bind off instead (CS calls that one “Elastic bind off”).
25 March 2017: Finished stockinette portion of body. Increased every 10th row seven times and then increased five times on last part before lower border for 165 stitches total. Just started on third skein of yarn.
13 March 2017: Ready to divide sleeves.
11 March 2017: Cast on using purl (a.k.a. reverse) cable cast on (I used Cap Sease’s book, but that link works, too). Used dejer’s notes and cast on an extra stitch for each sleeve so that I can keep the raglan line nice.
This seems like it’s going to knit up VERY fast!
Notes from queue: Knit for 40” bust on top; do extra increases for hip (like my Sheep Silk Sap Recoleta). Plan to do on 10s, though yarn indicates using 9s for 16 st/4”. Might have to swatch (kill me now). See “helpful notes” projects on doing seed rib instead of 1x1 for cuffs.
