My gauge was off, I got 26 stitches a 29 rows over 4” (did not swatch… Too excited to just jump in. It’s who I am as a person.) So my vest came out bigger. It is 45” around and 23.75” from the underarm to the bottom edge. It is basically a short dress. I did follow the instructions for the long version, which at my gauge added about 6” from where the petite version would have started. Even though my gauge is looser, I still really like the fabric.
This was a very fun pattern and the constantly changing colors made it go fast even in the fingering weight yarn. I did not make any changes to the pattern other than for the neck and arm bands. Rather than counting stitches, I just picked up 1 for 1 at the bound off edges and back neck and 3 for 4 stitches along the selvage edges. It resulted in ribbing that lays very nicely. I didn’t count, so who knows, may have been exactly how many I was supposed to have.
Rather than weave in all of the ends from the colorwork, I braided them down the edge and tied the ends. The yarn is very “grabby” and felts quickly so I think it will stay very secure.
I used the crochet method to secure the steeks and it worked great. No issues at all with unraveling. I’d done small steeks in the past, but this was the first time I seeked arm and v-neck openings. Even though I was sure it would work it still feels so wrong to take scissors to knitting you spent hours and hours on.
I worked on this exclusively and it took about 7 weeks. Feels lighting fast since I normally bounce between 4-5 projects at a time and don’t finish quickly.
