Even though I’ve been knitting sweaters for almost a decade, this was actually a project of many firsts! First drop shoulder pullover sweater (I love it), first time I used twisted rib (my hands got so used to the motion that by the end that when I went to cast on socks later, I tried to knit them in twisted rib), and first time with mohair (more on that at the end).

I normally like to knit pullovers with a finished bust measurement of 36 in, so I chose the 116 cm (45.6 in) to get about 9.5 in positive ease on top of my already comfy preference. I love the fit! It’s very comfortable without feeling shapeless and the extra room allows a button down underneath for a fancier look without me feeling constricted. It’s a comfy light knit with a good ole chunk of stockinette for happy reading and tv watching knitting as well!

Also I love the color block potential here! You can go low contrast with your mohair like Isy’s or higher contrast for a fun design pop! I originally thought I was going cinnamon with the body and a dark clay for the sleeves, but you know how it goes when you buy yarn online! I’m happy with it now, I think it gives it a cute casual comfy vibe and I dig it!

Yarn choice!

I was on a budget (both money and time) for this test knit and Hobbii Diablo mohair was on sale and has a solid reputation for quick international shipping, so that’s what I went for. But if I need mohair again, I won’t use Diablo.

I’ve knit with a fair amount of scratchy yarns, and I’ve grown a tolerance to rustic wool against my neck and arms. Failing that, I’m more than happy to wear long sleeves and turtle necks to help out. However, knitting with the Diablo just wasn’t the fluid experience I look for in my projects. I don’t know how else to describe it other than it felt like there was a constant drag across my wood needles.

I do not know what color this actually is anymore. I think I need to get out into more natural light because for the entirety of the yoke, I thought this baby was predominately red and then I take it in the car and IT IS ASSUREDLY PUMPKIN ORANGE.
