Fits beautifully. Comfortable and warm. Even looks good with glasses on! :)
Orange-ish:
Same yarn as used for my slippers. 3 plies; orange, white and gray. Did the bleach test and both the white and gray are 100% wool and the orange is some kind of super strong synthetic.
After row 8 = 1 3/4”
Aiming for 21” so, 21 - (1.75)2 = 17.5”
Went with 17” of pattern.
My starting and ending tension with the single crochets were markedly different as seen in 2nd orange-ish photo (and my finishing was ugly!)
Red:
Navaho plied from the big red cone to work with 3 strands for whole project.
Decided to make the skinny bit at the back with a stretchy stitch (slstblo ribbing) and one piece so no seam in middle.
Ch 18
For 7 ridges (14 rows): slstblo 17, ch 1, turn
Without turning on last row, work 3 sc under 2 loops of each ‘valley’ across edge for a total of 21 sc
To connect to other end of pattern:
Fold with pattern side closest to me. Using blo of pattern side, continue under to 2 loops of ‘mountain’, pull through all 3 loops and complete sc. Next 2 from pattern side go into same ‘mountain’. Continue across. Results in beautiful looking finish as seen in 3rd red photo.
Sparkly red:
I chose this pattern for IntNatCroMo2013 for trying out a stitch or stitch pattern that I had never tried before. Really liked it then and have now come back to it and like it even better :)
