Notes

Irish Mesh Stitch
sl1kw => slip one knitwise
psso2 => pass slipped stitch over two knit sts

CO 42 (or any multiple of 3) sts
1: k2, [yo, sl1kw, k2, psso2], k1
2: purl across
3: k1, [sl1kw, k2, psso2, yo], k2
4: purl across
BO

Hm. I wonder if I should have bound off purlwise on the last row 4 (I bound off knitwise after completing a row 4).

2024-07-31: Made another with a garter stitch border.

I think we can do without one stitch at the beginning and end of each row; the border will take care of it. Also, start on row 4 and end on row 3 (or renumber the rows). So, try again like this?

CO 40 (or any multiple of 3 plus 1) sts
knit across for 5 rows
1: k3, [p], k3
2: k3, k1, [yo, sl1kw, k2, psso2], k3
3: k3, [p], k3
4: k3, [sl1kw, k2, psso2, yo], k1, k3
knit across for 4 rows
BO

I think we need to bind off on the WS, so only 4 rows, not 5.

2024-08-03: Third time’s a charm! Finished a third one with 40 sts. Finished on a row 2. Looks perfect. Even bound off on the correct side (started knitting across, but backed up when I realized I should have been binding off).

2024-08-10: Did another in “strawberry cream” multi-colored yarn. I think I ended on row 4 on this one.

2024-08-19: Did another one with a seed stitch border.

CO 43 (or any multiple of 6 plus 1) sts
Seed stitch (k1p1) for three rows
1: k1p1k1, [p], k1p1k1
2: k1p1k1, k1, [yo, sl1kw, k2, psso2], k1p1k1
3: k1p1k1, [p], k1p1k1
4: k1p1k1, [sl1kw, k2, psso2, yo], k1, k1p1k1
Seed stitch (k1p1) for two rows
BO in pattern on the third row

Okay, I think I bound off too soon.

2024-08-28: Did another seed stitch one, this time with three complete seed stitch rows before binding off in knit. Also, I ended on row three for an extra row of purls before starting the border. That puts the bind off on the WS.

CO 43 (or any multiple of 6 plus 1) sts
Seed stitch (k1p1) for three rows
1: k1p1k1, [p], k1p1k1
2: k1p1k1, k1, [yo, sl1kw, k2, psso2], k1p1k1
3: k1p1k1, [p], k1p1k1
4: k1p1k1, [sl1kw, k2, psso2, yo], k1, k1p1k1
End on a row 3 (or row 1, I suppose).
Knit seed stitch (k1p1) for three rows.
