Diana bought me this kit at the Maryland Sheep & Wool Festival yesterday! Michelle helped me wind the wool this morning and then I cast on! I’m using the fancy hexagonal needles that I also bought at Sheep & Wool yesterday. I tried a provisional cast-on first, but I twisted it. I ripped it out and just did a long-tail cast-on (I am knitting in the round, not flat).
I didn’t work on this much all year. Then I brought it with me on the trip home for Christmas and did most of it in the car there and back.
2 Jan 2016 - Fail! Knitting in the round turned out to be a mistake. I didn’t leave enough slack in the long floats where the sheep are, so there is no ease at all. Even though I cast on 90 sts (one extra sheep), the hat is too small. I’m going to try snipping some floats and gluing them down.
3 Jan 2016 - Well, snipping the floats and gluing them to pieces of felt worked okay, but the hat is still too small for an adult. Diana squeezed it onto her head for these photos, but it’s not really wearable. It’s a good looking hat; I’ll have to find some kid to give it to.
