I wanted to make good use of the leftover handspun yarn from Cindy’s hat and Michelle’s hat, so I figured I’d try a top-down hat with stripes.

CO 8 sts (2 sts on each of 4 needles)
1: knit
2: kfb (16 sts)
3: color B - knit
4: kfb, k2, kfb (4 times, once each needle) (24 sts)
5: color A - knit
6: kfb, k4, kfb (4 times) (32 sts)
7: color B - knit
8: kfb, k6, kfb (4 times) (40 sts)
9: color A - knit
10: kfb, k8, kfb (4 times) (48 sts)
11: color B - knit
12: kfb, k10, kfb (4 times) (56 sts)
13: color A - knit
14: kfb, k12, kfb (4 times) (64 sts)
15: color B - knit
16: kfb, k14, kfb (4 times) (72 sts)
17: color A - knit
18: kfb, k16, kfb (4 times) (80 sts)
19: color B - knit
20: kfb, k18, kfb (4 times) (88 sts)
21: color A - knit
22: kfb, k20, kfb (4 times) (96sts)

keep knitting two rounds of color B, two rounds of color A, until you run out of yarn.

Switch to beige commercial yarn.
knit one round.
Knit k1 p1 ribbing until it’s the length you want.
