CO 49 sts with Twisted German Cast-on
Join in the round slip stitch (48 sts)
K1, P1 for about 3 in
I have 12 sts on each of four DPNs (place a marker every 12 sts if using circulars)

On each of the four needles

SSK, knit in pattern to last two sts, K2tog (10 sts)
knit in pattern
SSK, knit in pattern to last two sts, K2tog (8 sts)
knit in pattern
SSK, knit in pattern to last two sts, K2tog (6 sts)
knit in pattern
SSK, knit in pattern to last two sts, K2tog (4 sts)
knit in pattern
SSK, knit in pattern to last two sts, K2tog (2 sts)

Kitchener them off as four pairs.

Maybe a 3NBO would have been better. Or just run a tapestry needle through the last eight sts and pull tight.
