Notes

I tried gauge swatches with DK yarn, but had to move to worsted weight because I knit so tightly. I am getting 18 stitches & 24 rows to 4”.

I love how explicit the pattern instructions are, including mention of how many garter ridges you should have, etc.

Well, I don’t know what I did wrong, but my End of Section 1 stitch counts were off. I ended up with:

Raglan - 2 stitches
Sleeve - 68 stitches
Raglan - 2 stitches
Back - 76 stitches
Raglan - 2 stitches
Sleeve - 68 stitches
Raglan - 2 stitches

I’m guessing my error won’t matter too much because I picked up the correct number of stitches.

Wow, I just finished the first 10 rows of the pattern. It really does eat up the yarn - I have only 123 grams out of the 227 I started with. I am not sure I will have enough yarn to do 5 garland patterns.

I am a solid intermediate knitter, been knitting for about 65 years, but this pattern keeps you on your toes! And bring your pointy needles & non-splitting yarn.

Decided I need to replace some of the Garland pattern with rows of garter to save yarn. I knit according to the pattern through row 13, then:

5 knit rows, starting on the WS to create 3 garter ridges.
4 rows of SS (with garter band)
Rows 15-23, per pattern
5 knit rows
Rows 1-14, per pattern

Okay, now I feel stupid! I weighed what yarn I had left before & after doing a Garland section 5-9 & 15-19 & that took 12 grams of yarn. Five rows of garter took 15 grams. So much for my theory that the Garland pattern took more yarn than garter!

I started off thinking I’d do the pico BO, but now with the button I’ve chosen, I am just doing the garter edge. The yarn & button have a rustic feel. For the buttonhole, I stopped 5 stitches short of the end & BO 3 stitches.

I am stoked!
