Notes

I have 66 grams of the Dazzleaire left in the skein.

I used size 7 needles for the chicken base, body, tail & head.

Used RHSS for the base. Apparently that yarn is thicker & the base is bigger than it needs to be. I should have looked at the project pages more closely & I would have seen how far up the side the base comes. I traced around the base before attaching the body stitches & made a rice filled fabric bag to use as a weight in the bottom. I put 170 grams of rice in the packet.

After 10 rounds according to the pattern, I ripped back. I picked up 60 stitches & did K1, KFB for the first increase round (round 2 - 90 stitches). One round even, then second increase round, K8, K2tog. I did two extra rounds whenever the directions called for doing a chart, reasoning that if it was going to be fatter, it must be taller. I used the Kitchener stitch to close the remaining 18 stitches I had left after doing 4 decrease rounds.

I CO 24 stitches for the tail & doubled the knit even rounds.

I CO 20 stitches for the head & did 15 rounds even, then K2tog all around on the last round.

I used the size 5 needles for the wattle. I didn’t cut the yarn after making the first one. I used the one stitch left to do a cable CO to make 2 stitches, then repeated directions for the second wattle.

I did a SC chain for the comb, then wadded it up to make 3 loops.

I had trouble getting the right size beak. I finally used the Easter pattern, but did it in garter stitch on size 2 needles.

I did French knot eyes.

Well, I doubt if I’ll be making another anytime soon! I had to improvise everything once I decided to make the body fit the base. I guess it looks like a chicken & I hope Liz likes it. As a knitter herself, she will understand what effort went into making it.
