5/7/11 - I had an idea for a bag and browsed one of my crochet books for an appropriate stitch pattern, settling on short to long wedge. So far, so good. I think the stitch pattern’s a little lost in this busy yarn, but I still like it. =)
5/25/11 - sheesh This stitch pattern literally eats yarn. I finished the majority of the body of the bag and have only 48g (of the mondo 340g skein) left for the strap! Really glad I had a giant skein of cotton for this - fewer ends to weave in. =) I was ready to start my contrast color and discovered, with all the cotton in my stash… I didn’t have what I needed. =( I wanted brown, but all my browns are variegated and this bag is already busy enough. I live in a small town so my only option within an hr was Walmart. Luckily, they did have one solid brown that thankfully works well with the blue-green-white, but I had to pay full price… which I never do. At least cotton’s cheap.
6/21/11 - This didn’t get done in time for the fiberfest as planned and I lost my motivation. Finally pulled it back out this afternoon and finished the strap, face and flap. I love it! I made a wide strap long enough to be worn across the body like a messenger bag (but hopefully short enough to counteract stretch). It was fun playing around with the beak and figuring out how I wanted the flap closure to work.
This was my first bigger crochet project with no pattern. :-) He’s perfect for fiber festivals - flap open and surprise at all the possibilities when we start, flap closed and grumpy when we’re out of cash. lol
Colors of Lily Sugar’n Cream used: 2 balls warm brown, roughly 1/2 ball white, small amount of tangerine and black
Total cost came in right around $11 including the buttons. :-)
