Creepy Christmas gift for Nathanimal. So happy with how it turned out; the kid loves it. I made him wear the hat last night, while playing Mindcrap, so that I could snap some pics.

I held two yarns together to get a bulky weight - black and black with very subtle flecks of colour (Patons Classic Wool in Black Tweed - my new favourity yarn).

It was hard to find the right green for the creeper; I settled on the hideous Red Heart Reflective because it was the best colour. I am very happy that I used this because when my son is out at night, he glows!

Here’s the pattern that I wrote to make the hat: cast on 78 stitches using cable rib cast on.

2 x 2 rib for 5 rows, then knit one row, and purl one row. Next row, k2 tog, then do 11 repeats per row of 7 stitch creeper chart (77 sts, 10 rows).

Post-chart:
1st row: k2tog, knit (76 sts)
2nd row: knit
3rd row: purl
4th and consecutive rows: knit until hat measures 6 inches tall.

Shape crown:
1st row: k1 (k2tog, k3). 15 times. 61 sts.
2nd and every alternate row: knit
3rd row: k1 (k2tog, k2). 15 times. 46 sts.
7th row: k1 k1 (k2tog, k1). 15 times. 31 sts.
9th row: k1, k1 (k2tog). 15 times. 16 sts.

Break off yarn, run yarn through remaining stitches, draw up and fasten off.
