My goals for the test knit were general yardage and pattern readability. And speed.
I started the test late and scrambled to find semi appropriate yarn to meet these requirements.
worsted/aran is not a weight I often knit with. I wasn’t willing to wait for a delivery so ended up at a local craft store with a smaller selection than I expected… at least for colours I wanted.
So I ended up with kitchen cotton. I don’t know any newborn children I could ask to try it on so one of my cabbage patch kids (Rachel) did her best. But I wasn’t worried about the fabric as I would be for an infant.
100% cotton for faire isle isn’t ideal. Kitchen cotton for a sweater is not a good idea.
yardage estimates
- gold 26g, 43.7 yd (40 m)
- light 18g, 30.3 yd (27.7 m)
- med 44g, 74 yd (67.6 m)
- dark 40g, 67.3 yd (61.5 m)
Also please note that I reversed the sleeves despite clear instructions and therefore menorah is centered on the back. I may duplicate stitch fix the lettering on the sleeves, but the cotton isn’t good for duplicate stitch.
