I don’t think this yarn was the best choice for a novice to use for the warp because it is pretty stretchy. As I was weaving, I ended up with the dreaded smiling weft. But I don’t think the stretchiness was really the culprit. I think that the warp spread as I was winding it on the warp beam, and that caused the warp threads on the edges to be shorter than the warp thread in the center, hence the dreaded smile. Had I noticed this after winding the warp on, before I started weaving, I could have fixed it. But my newbie eyes didn’t pick up on this mistake.
The scarf was pretty ripply/wavy off the loom, but wet finishing and pressing helped a little bit. And in spite of the total warp tension fail, the fabric is still nice and drapy, the color is gorgeous, and when I wear the scarf, I simply cannot tell that the weaving is so freaking wonky. I certainly wouldn’t give this scarf as a gift, but I will definitely wear it myself.
A positive note, my selvedges are pretty neat and consistent, so there’s that. And the slightly variegated nature of the yarn makes for a beautiful appearance.
I’m a little sad that Knit Picks discontinued this yarn because it’s pretty nice to weave with. And this particular color way makes my heart sing.
