this is yarn i had stashed away in my storage unit. it spent two years there (!) and was in a basket of other yarns. to be honest, some mice lived there as well. i went through all the yarns and picked out the ones that were obviously nibbled or peed on; this one seemed to be in good shape and untouched by the mousies. they seemed to really only be interested in cotton yarns and acrylics; anything with too much wool they ignored. weird. i feel a little strange using the yarn because i’m a bit of a germaphobe, but the way i see it, people have lived with mice forever, and not always known about it. the yarn has been in the house for over two weeks, and no one has developed hantavirus, so i think we’re safe. plus, i love this colorway and when i bought the yarn i was terrible at knitting socks, and now i’m better and it would be a shame to have this yarn go to waste.

3/20/10: i’m working on the heel right now, and i don’t think i like using the reinforcing thread. it makes everything way too stiff and it’s slowing me down. i might rip back a few rows and work without it. this is the first time i’ve ever worked with reinforcing thread, and i’m not sure i’m hard enough on my heels to even need it.

5/31: this shouldn’t have taken me this long, but i started two other projects (that i have since frogged) and then misplaced this project. it took me all of a few hours to get the second sock done, and they are super cute.
