Skirt size 6

I started with the waistband part. I used the provisional cast on method and knit for 3”. Then I added a 1.5” elastic waistband, folded the fabric over the elastic band and knit both end rows together. Then I knit one round with the same yarn to maintain tension. After the knit round, I started working on the chart A.

Edit: I did not use different needle sizes for the waistband. The entire skirt including the waistband is knit with Size 6 needles.

I was too lazy to do the Latvian braid at the end so I did k1 MC k1 CC* for one round then p1* for the next round with my final color(Magenta). I bound off with the final color.

Needles used in the project- US 6 32” and 60” circular knitting needles

Finishing: I was on a time crunch to finish the skirt by Christmas so I roughly separated the yarn tails into different sections and braided them. I secured each section with a knot. It does not look pretty but it is holding up pretty well. I would have gone insane if I had to weave in all the tails.

I did not wet block the skirt. I used a steamer to straighten the stitches and shape the skirt. I probably spent an hour uncurling and shaping the bottom portion. The skirt seems too heavy to wash with water, and I’m worried about the fabric stretching. I’m happy with the current length where it sits just below my knees. So I’ll probably never wash the skirt, only dry cleaning or spot cleaning.

Finally, I’m in love with the Cascade yarns used. They were so soft to work with and there was hardly any pilling. The colors I chose were very vibrant so it was such a delight seeing each section grow. I was stopping to admire the colors and the pattern every few rows. This is by far the most intricate and time consuming project I have worked on. I couldn’t be happier with the end result!

Yarn cost was ~$150. Time spent knitting ~90hrs
